Part-time System Administrator

Brief description :

Expertise in the provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, monitoring and performing system administration maintenance of Windows/Linux/Mac based applications supporting the company's applications.

Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)

Responsible for the design, installation, configuration and support of server environment in accordance with established standards and operational requirements.
*Perform proactive monitoring to ensure high availability including verifying integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and applications and verifying completion of scheduled jobs in compliance with established security standards.
*Responsible for responding to hardware and software failures by determining root causes, developing and executing appropriate remedial actions and following established communication plans for informing ITS leadership and impacted customers.
*Perform routine backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and related data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media and are cycled off site as needed for business continuity purposes.
*Develops, documents and executes processes for performing Windows system data recovery to ensure integrity and completeness of backup procedures.
*Responsible for installing server operating system patches and upgrades as needed including supporting administrative tools and utilities during scheduled maintenance windows and in accordance with change management procedures.
*Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
*Responsible for installation, configuration and maintenance of  servers software applications including Internet Information Services (IIS), Apache for Windows, and other utilities.

Serves as a backup to other users in supporting all applications regardless of the platform.
Provides periodic reports on servers system availability and performance metrics to management.
Assists with negotiating vendor contracts in support of hardware and software solutions to ensure compliance with established service level agreements.
Researches and recommends innovative, automated approaches for system administration tasks.
Writes and updates technical procedures, standards and knowledgebase for supported systems

Participates in projects to implement new technologies and/or application system that support needs of the Clients

Demonstrated focus on customer service skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively to a wide variety of audiences.
Knowledge and understanding of current technologies needed by the company and impact on delivery of IT services.
Demonstrated experience in the development of technical and user documentation.
Ability to multi-task and set priorities within tight timelines and high client expectations.

Respond to all system problems on a 24x7 basis 

Preferred skills

What You’ll Need:
5+ years of experience building servers in the cloud and keeping online production environments humming. Experience running  systems in AWS or other cloud infrastructures and you’re a pro with Mac/Windows operating systems and Active Directory administration and maintenance 
Performance tuning skills: you’ve managed to squeeze extra performance out of your systems with solid tuning, not just throwing money at a problem 
Passion for and experience with automation- you never do something manually more than once; you know how to write quick scripts to manage the systems you control, whether that be a script to automate a task you tend to avoid or a script to do bulk work for thousands of customers 
Ability to rapidly change direction when priorities shift, stay focused on the most relevant issues and can evolve and shift to meet them as needed 
Experience with VMWare and SAN/NAS technologies, ideally high availability, high-performance storage
